Fri, 09/30/2011 (All day)

The GCA Greeting Card Market Report 2011 reinforces what a huge and successful industry this is – with nearly £1.39 billion spent on single cards in the last year - more than tea and coffee put together. It is the most successful greeting card industry in the world with 31 cards being sent on average per person each year.

Latest Figures from the GCA Market Report 2011

  • Everyday cards continue to dominate, representing 77% of the value share and 78% of all greeting cards bought.
  • Christmas Singles and continue to hold their own at £171.6 million.
  • Spring seasons account for 11% of total sales with a Value of £154.2 million.
  • Mother’s Day remains the largest Spring Seasons card sending event, notching up £56.4million in sales with an average price paid of £2.05. And the UK public continues to show its romantic side, as the average spend on Valentine’s Day was £2.17 – the highest of all the categories tracked.

The positive picture that this market report paints reinforces the belief that greeting cards remain an ever important part of the UK social culture – people clearly still want to celebrate everyday and special occasions with their loved ones, and to mark many of life’s key ‘connecting’ moments with the sending of a card.
